Summer Outage Readiness for South Jersey Businesses
Storms and packed shore weeks
Summer on this coast is not a weather footnote. Thunderstorms knock power. Weeks when every room is booked knock Wi-Fi that was “fine in April.” Staff you hired last Saturday do not know the closet password. The businesses that get through July are the ones that treated June as a rehearsal: UPS tested, closet ventilated, guest network actually separate, a phone number that reaches a person who can drive from Mays Landing instead of a status page hosted in another state.
We do not publish a minute-count and we do not pretend we control Atlantic City Electric. Readiness is the plant in your building and who you call when it is dark. If the only copy of the network diagram is in someone’s head and that someone is at the beach, you are not ready.
The hot closet
Closets on the shore cook. A consumer gateway, a switch, an NVR, and a UPS with a dead battery in a room with no exhaust will thermal-throttle and then reboot in a loop on the first ninety-degree week. That looks like “the internet is out” to the front desk. It is a closet. Open the door in June. Feel it. If it is a sauna, fix airflow and replace the UPS that has been chirping since last season before you blame the ISP.
Same week: walk the Wi-Fi with the patio open and the dining room full, or with the office AC struggling. Access points fail high, not in the empty building you surveyed in February. If you need that survey, that is Wi-Fi and networking work — better in May than on the Fourth.
A local number, not a status page
When the line is down, a national vendor’s status page tells you their cloud is up. It does not reseat your ONT, swap a dead PoE injector, or notice that the UPS dumped the switch and the cameras at 2 p.m. You want a number that rings a technician who already knows the town. Ours is 609-415-0011. Izzo Network, Mays Landing, NJ.
If you want a managed plan so we are already watching the closet before the storm, say that. If you want a one-time readiness visit — UPS, closet, guest net, who has the keys — say that instead. Either way, do it before the packed week, not during it.
Write down who has the closet key, where the UPS sits, and which circuit the switch is on. A generator for the dining room that does not feed the rack is how you get lights and no cards. Test the UPS by pulling the plug on a quiet morning in June, not during the storm. If the battery is swollen or the unit has been chirping since last season, replace it. Then put 609-415-0011 in the phone of whoever opens on a Sunday. That is readiness. A laminated vendor list in a drawer in another county is not.
