Wi-Fi 7 Business Network Upgrades

New radios do not fix a bad layout

Wi-Fi 7 is a radio generation. It is not a remedy for an access point in a tin ceiling, a guest network that was never split, or a closet router doing every job. Vendors will sell the generation. Buildings fail on placement, channel plan, and whether staff and guests share a broadcast domain. If those are wrong, a new badge on the AP changes the brochure and not the afternoon in July.

We will look at Wi-Fi and networking as a layout problem first. Coverage holes, sticky clients, neighbor interference, a VLAN plan that does not exist — that is the work. Sometimes the existing access points are fine and the one in the hallway needs to move. Sometimes they are old enough that replacing them is cheaper than pretending. We will say which. We will not replace a stack because a datasheet came out.

Coverage and VLANs first

Walk the floor with a typical client — a phone, a laptop, a terminal — at the hour you care about. Note the corners, the walk-in, the patio, the second floor. Then look at the controller or the AP list and see whether those corners even have a radio pointed at them. Then look at whether cameras and guests are on the staff SSID. That sequence is the upgrade. Radios come after.

Wi-Fi 7 can matter when you already have density, clean switching, and a reason to want the extra airtime. A six-person office with plaster walls and one ISP gateway is not that case. A packed shore dining room with every seat on a phone might be, after the survey. The generation is a tool. It is not the plan.

We will tell you if you need new APs

Bring the model list if you have it. Bring a photo of the closet. Say whether July is the problem or every Monday is the problem. From Mays Landing we will tell you: move what you have, replace what you have, or stop buying Wi-Fi and fix the switch and the VLANs. That conversation is the upgrade. 6 GHz air from a Wi-Fi 7 radio does not go through plaster the way a datasheet implies. Older phones and the POS terminal you will not replace this year may not join that band at all. If half the clients stay on 5 GHz, you bought a generation for a brochure. We will check what your people actually carry — phones, printers, handhelds — before anyone orders an AP. Layout, channels, and VLANs first. New radios only when those are already honest.
